Washing Machine Guide

Our rugs are designed to be compatible with most standard washing machines. However, for optimal care and to ensure the longevity of your rug, we recommend following these specific guidelines:

  • Use Gentle Cycle: Set your washing machine to a gentle or delicate cycle to prevent any damage to the fibers of the rug.
  • Cold Water Wash: Use cold water for washing to help preserve the colors and prevent any shrinkage.
  • Mild Detergent: Opt for a mild detergent. Avoid using bleach or other harsh chemicals that could damage the rug's material.
  • Avoid Overloading: Make sure not to overload your washing machine. Wash the rug separately or with similar items to ensure a thorough clean.
  • Air Dry if Possible: After washing, air drying your rug is preferable. If you must use a dryer, choose a low heat setting.

By following these guidelines, you can safely and effectively clean your rug in a standard washing machine while preserving its quality and appearance.

For washing rugs of sizes 5 feet x 7 feet (approximately) and 7 feet x 10 feet (approximately), the capacity of the washing machine is an important consideration. Here are some guidelines:

  • 5 feet x 7 feet : Typically, a washing machine with a capacity of at least 3.5 to 4.5 cubic feet (about 99 to 127 liters) can accommodate a rug of this size. This is equivalent to the capacity of most standard household washing machines.
  • 7 feet x 10 feet: For a rug of this size, you would need a larger washing machine, typically with a capacity of 4.5 to 6.0 cubic feet (about 127 to 170 liters) or more. This is usually within the range of large or commercial washing machines.
  • Runners: Runners, which are typically long and narrow rugs, usually require a washing machine with a capacity of at least 2.5 to 3.5 cubic feet (about 71 to 99 liters) to ensure they can be washed effectively.

Rug Size

Washer Capacity

5 feet x 7 feet  3.5 to 4.5 cubic feet
7 feet x 10 feet  4.5 to 6.0 cubic feet
Runners 2.5 to 3.5 cubic feet

Please note that even if the washing machine capacity theoretically accommodates the rug, you also need to ensure that the rug can move freely for thorough cleaning without damaging the rug or the machine. For particularly large or heavy rugs, hand washing or professional cleaning might be a safer option.
